Concept introduction:
Addition reactions are those in which one of the reactants contains a pi bond and another reactant is a polar molecule. The polar molecule reacts by adding on to the pi bonded atoms.
Substitution reactions are those in which one of the groups in a reactant is replaced by another group of the same charge, which means that a nucleophile is replaced with another nucleophile and an electrophile is replaced by another electrophile.
Elimination reactions involve elimination of groups from adjacent atoms resulting in breaking of two sigma bonds and formation of a pi bond.
Isomerization reactions involve the conversion of one isomer to another. In this, position of atoms or groups changes but the molecular formula remains the same.
