Memorandum To: Mrs. Julie Jones From: Chigmou Sandjong Date: March 3, 2016 Subject: Audience Memo Analysis I will compare the information available from two major online medical resources to see what type of audience they are targeting and how the information is communicated. The topic that I will be chosen is diabetes. The websites that I will be getting my sources are from Medicinenet (http://www.medicinenet.com/diabetes_mellitus/article.htm) and the CDC centers for disease control and prevention (http://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/home/index.html). The primary audience that Medicinenet aims for is the general public which intends to have more information about their health or the health of a loved one and the secondary is health care professionals who wish to refresh or gain more knowledge about any health subjects that they …show more content…
CDC differs from Medicinenet site in that it uses more technical language, and medical terms. However, they both employ jargon such as blood glucose, body mass index, A1c, dawn phenomenon, diabetes insipidus and mellitus, diabetes ketoacidosis, euglycemia, hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Medicinenet has sentences that are 5 words long, each paragraph has 5 sentences which reflect on what type of audience they are targeting. CDC on the contrary uses sentences that are 10 to 11 words long, and each paragraph has minimum 7 sentences. Medicinenet has a lot of advertising which implies that there are using them as a tool to attract their consumers. The CDC almost no advertising which implies that they do not need ads to attract their readers. The CDC is providing educational and research materials to attract their audience. CDC and Medicinenet both use tables, graphs, and figures to illustrate some materials which facilitate comprehension of the information presented in. They differ in the way that medicinenet have a lot of and CDC uses data

Communication is a process of transferring information from one person or from a group of people to the other. Communication can also be defined as a way and form of passing or receiving a message. People communicate to express or share a concern and allow the passing of message. By not communicating can limit the people’s ability to connect with each other. For instance care worker to care users and other professionals in the care setting environment. People communicate so that they can understand the needs of others and it ensures ways of building trust and resolving conflicts. Communication is a two way process that enables sharing of experience.
The growth of health care activities since then has truly encouraged patients to reach for information outside the confines of patient and physician interaction. Revolutionary new technology such as cell phones and computers, as well as the development of the Internet and social media sites, has served as where a vast majority of the public finds current knowledge for their problems.
The data in these databases help in managing care plans, research projects, and creating reports for the different departments within a health care facility.
Caveat lector is a Latin phrase meaning, “let the reader beware.” Health information on the internet is growing at an alarming rate. However, some information on the internet is not accurate or current, and unfortunately, many web sites regarding healthcare offer misleading, incomplete, and incorrect information. Many consumers do not have the knowledge to judge and evaluate the quality of online information. This paper aims to discuss how the website WebMD presents information to readers. It will evaluate WebMD according to its source, where was the source obtained; type of funding, is it commercially funded or private; the validity and quality, how valid is the information and can it be verified; and privacy, is your personal information
An example of when it could be used is, ‘What time shall I come see you today?’

Education of patients and families regarding the reliability of internet information is prudent. Given the enormous amount of information available via the World Wide Web, not all of which, as you illustrate, is reliable, it is of great importance that patients and families comprehend the unreliability of some of the information they may acquire. Patients who are unable to gain access to health care secondary to a lack of funds, insurance, or availability of their provider, may be inclined to review their symptoms utilizing a search engine. Moreover, patients who were incapable of accessing healthcare due to reasons other than a lack of insurance are more likely to utilize the internet to obtain health related

Health and medicine are important for a society to run smoothly. The internet can be very dangerous. First of all, one does not know who is putting this information on the internet and many illnesses have similar symptoms but need different treatments. It is not always easy to decide what is reliable. 80% of internet users go online to find health related information. Many people rely and trust the internet which makes them sicker. When one is unhealthy, it leads to them not being able to perform their role in society and become exempt from normal obligations. Doctors play a vital role in keeping people healthy and productive in our society. People tend to believe what they read on the internet. But as we have learned
The CCM web site has had no incremental improvements (www.connectedmed.com) for over 20 months. This web site which won an award for outstanding webs sites in 2010 in the Health Care industry sits with inaccurate, outdated, and inconsistent materials. The web site is in bad need of a complete overhaul. The content, keywords, and meta tags are all old and are not standardized
On November 15, 2017, I attended a professional meeting called “Think Like A Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes with Insulin.” The sponsors for this meeting were SNDA and CVD. The speaker who presented at the meeting was Gary Scheiner Ms, CDE. He is an author of the book “Think Like A Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes with Insulin.” The general objective for this meeting helped people gain more knowledge about diabetes, and learned more from author personal experiences with type I diabetes. After I attended this meeting, I become more knowledgeable about diabetes. I have a chance to learn more about diabetes nutrition, different type of medications, and many tools that are available for diabetes patients to keep track on the blood glucose.
