1) What is the ethical or practical dilemma in the case study? Support your answer.
In the case study, the practical dilemma is that there aren’t enough nurses on the unit to provide efficient care for each patient. Even if nurses wanted to provide in-depth care for patient, there wasn’t enough time. Not having enough time can lead to a medical crisis. For instance, Mrs. Keck case, she suffered from brain damage due to oxygen deprivation, because of the lack of nursing monitoring. There is only so much time to provide in a day when the nurses are under staff for each unit. The institution requirement is to maintain safe care which is the primary ethical and legal duty of all personnel; yet they fail to provide enough staff to provide proficient care.
Moreover, in the GMC Motor vehicle company case, it was more of an ethical dilemma because they chose money over life. The GMC did not want to spend the extra money to relocate the fuel tank, because it cost less to settle a law suit from injuries and death in fuel fires.
