Every single child is different, everyone has their own unique traits. Each child progresses at an individual rate, and has the ability to develop as fast or as slow as necessary. In this essay, I am expressing the different abilities that I have noticed that Alexis is capable of, and I am eager to explain their meaning. Every toddler is quickly developing and their actions can be analyzed to assess the rate of development for that certain child. Once or twice a week, we observe the assigned child. I take notes on different actions that I observe. Later on, I write my own assessment about that particular action, and then eventually check the book to see exactly what that specific activity means in relation to the development of the student being observed. …show more content…

I have spent some time with Alexis, and I have been lucky enough to get to know her and see her growth. In order to make conclusions about her actions, I used journal entries, where I wrote down her actions and analyzed it. In each journal entry, I used a quote explaining if that certain activity was on track, ahead, or behind. In Child Development, we use the book Working With Children by Judy Herr. This is a great book that provides all of the resources and information in order to assess the children. The book explains everything about children, and is a great source for teachers and students to use in the child care business. Lastly, I was not able to spend every moment with Alexis so her teachers helped me by letting me know some more information about Alexis that I was unaware of. For example, I would not know if she had any illnesses, so her teacher let me know any necessary information. The home report also allowed me to compare Alexis at school to who she is at home, ultimately allowing me to assess her abilities and
