Since early times, humans have attempted addressing issues such as, our instinct to survive, curiosity to know beyond themselves, fear of the unknown, pursuit of happiness, etc. Early Mesopotamian societies attempted to answer questions such as Who are we?, Where are we?, How did we get here? Many of those questions were driven by their instinct to survive, interaction with the nature around, fear of the known and unknown threatening their existence and found solace in God. God is necessary for human existence.
What is God? God is not some mystical being that is only accessible through religion, but rather a concept essential for existence. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary the God is a spirit or being that has great power, strength, knowledge, etc., and that can affect nature and the lives of people. Similar concept is echoed in various religions. Christianity, a monotheistic religion, defines God as the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being. whereas, Hinduism, a polytheistic religion, defines God as both the known and unknown, the being as well as non being, reality as well as unreality and he is one, but also many. They believe god manifests in innumerable forms and shapes. Yet, moral authority and all these contradictions can all be found beyond religion in our daily lives. God, therefore, exists beyond the realms religion as a higher being or power,
Religion was the premise of human progress for the ancient Mesopotamians; it commanded each part of their life. The ancient Mesopotamian culture was based upon Mythopoeic considering. In this way of intuition given myths, persuaded in Polytheism, the confidence in numerous divine beings. These divine beings controlled generally. The "old Mesopotamians saw divine beings and evil presences all over the place in nature."(13) Each god filled an ethernet need; there were lords of the sun, moon, tempests, stream, and fire and in every other thing. There were additionally the evil presences; they brought
When hope and humanity began to dissipate, people looked to God to protect them. “God is testing us. He wants to see whether we are capable of overcoming our base instincts, of killing the satan within ourselves. We have no right to despair. And if he punishes us mercilessly it is a sign that He loves us that much more…” (Wiesel 45) Faith was a symbol of survival; a symbol of them making past all of this cruelty. Despite when they could no longer depend on their close ones due to them dying, they depended on God that he was doing this for a reason. “All the earth and the universe are God’s! He kept pausing, as though he lacked the strength to uncover the meaning beneath the text.” (Weisel 67) An abundance of people began to believe that their God was no longer there protecting them, and that is what made them plummet. Once they had lost their faith and hope, they had lost their reason to live. There must be meaning to the existence of the Earth, as there is meaning for the existence of each and every individual. People who saw this understanding, are the ones who were capable of holding on for their lives regardless of what it
Dualistic Hindus try and understand divine reality through their many different gods. With that there is a focus put onto the one god Brahman which Brood describes as, “supreme, unitary reality, the ground of all Being.” (Brood et al., 2016). The monistic viewpoint of Brahman can best be described as the belief that all reality is ultimately one. Brahman is, “treated as a basic cosmic principle.” (Hopkins, 1971). According to Hopkins in the, “Atharva Veda, brahman is said to have the lowest and highest forms and to be ‘the womb of both the existent and the nonexistent.’ In 10.2 it is said that ‘by brahman the earth was disposed, as brahman the sky was set above, as brahman this atmosphere, the wide expanse, was set aloft and crosswise.’” (Hopkins, 1971). Brahman can most easily relate to the Christian, Islam, and Judaism God.Both Brahman and the God of Christianity, Islam,
Who is God? What are his characteristics? I believe that God is the person who created me and he is the person I believe in. I also think that God is the creator of the world and that has control over everything that happens in my life. I think that some of God’s characteristics are that he has the
The Hindus call their supreme reality “Brahman,” a God of infinite being, infinite awareness, and infinite bliss. “Utter reality, utter consciousness, and utterly beyond all possibility of frustration is the basic Hindu view of God” (Smith 1991). Hinduism sees their God as an archetype of supremacy with the noblest crown, a parent, loving, merciful, almighty, eternal salvation, and an understanding companion. There is also a distinction between personal (ramanuja) and transpersonal (shankara) notions of God in Hinduism; “God so conceived is called Saguna Brahman, or God-with-attributes or God-without-attributes, Nirguna Brahman” (Smith, 1991). Also, it is important to realize that God’s relation in Hinduism varies on symbolism and what is embraced: the creator, the preserver, and the destroyer who resolves all finite forms of life. They view the world as “God-dependent.” A personalist in Hinduism “will see little religious availability in the idea od a God who is so far removed from our predicaments as to be unaware of our very existence” (Smith, 1991). Were as a transpersonalist sees God serving as a master in their life to guide them through their struggles and becomes possessed by this
Truth, what is truth? This question itself has a thousand answers, no person can ever be sure of what truth is rather, truth can be justified, it can checked for reliability with strong evidences and logic. If the evidence proves to be accurate then it can be established that a certain answer is the truth. However, have we ever tried to think about what intrigues us to seek the truth? To think about a question and set foot firmly on the path of knowledge. Definitely it has! That was the very cause itself which is why this world has witnessed some of the greatest philosophers like Aristotle, Plato and Socrates etc. along with the school of thought. The ability to think and reason is one of the greatest ability humans have, it is what
Who is God? God is the creator of all according to the Christian worldview. As Christians we believe that God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Diffey, 2015, Ch. 3) We trust that God be existent in three persons. After reading the Genesis chapters, I understood that God
God created the universe and all parts thereof. God is separate from his creation. God rules over his creation. The creation of the universe is a gift from God, ruled by God. God is transcendent.
One Nation under GOD Since 1952 when these four words were first drafted into the Pledge of Allegiance, that phrase has remained synonymous with the United States of America and the spirit of the American People. But what does that really mean? And more importantly, what do those four words have to do with us today? Ronald Reagan once said, “If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a Nation gone under”, which raises the question, “why?” Why is GOD so important to the United States of America? To answer that, one must journey to the start of our Country, July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was presented and signed by the Continental Congress, marking the birth of a nation. The next question is, if GOD is
When faced with a choice or decision, we weigh the options with a sense of what our god expects and are able to align the outcomes with the goals we seek. Not having a god generates internal conflict whereby any decisions made would be arbitrary, void of meaning, or irrelevant.
The belief in Gods has always existed throughout human’s recored history. Whether it be the Greek Gods: Apollo, and Zeus, or the Judeo-Christian God, believed by Christians in modern day society. The belief of God has always existed among humans, however, assuming God does not exist, what explains the cultural evolution of such a false belief, namely religion? I shall argue that the reason this false belief is successful is because it manipulates human nature better than any other belief by these three points: an avoidance of death (the soul), a sense of worth (knowledge), and a sense, or need of belief (faith).
Throughout history, every civilization has had some sort of god or higher being. What does this mean about human nature? Does this point to something that is naturally placed inside us saying there is something greater out there? I would say so. How else would you explain civilizations in both south America and agent grease all had gods to explain thing greater then them, though they did not have any contact, not internet, not phones, not international postal delivery system.
The existence of God has been in question for as long as mankind has existed and thought logically. Many questions have plagued the human mind in regards to God, and there have been many arguments drawn with the hopes of proving the existence of a supreme being whom we know as God. The “God” question has been presented to every individual at some point in their lives. It is a topic that will bring forth never-ending questions and an equal amount of attempted answers. Many philosophers have formulated different rationales when examining the topic of God, some of which include how the word itself should be defined, what his role is in human existence, whether or not he loves us, and ultimately, if he even exists at all. Mankind cannot
Since the dawn of human life, people have eternally been searching for the purpose of existence. Humans are innately curious beings, and are blessed to have the capabilities of higher thought processes. Humans use these thought processes to ponder the question of existence. Unfortunately, the evolution of man has not brought the human race any closer to actualizing its purpose on earth. In fact, this issue is such that the more one feels he or she understands it, the more questions concerning it arise. This problem perpetuates itself by the confusion of religion and spirituality, and the roles they hold in society. As the human race evolves, it feels the need to designate structure to its world. As
God is the only being with Primary & Secondary Consciousness in simultaneous function and the only Being which always has THE INNER Life Perception. There is nothing ‘outside’ God. The God ‘I’, in principal, does not differentiate from any other ‘I’, per example, ‘I’ of an insect, or a retard person, or a plant or an ‘I’ belonging to some planet or the cluster of ‘I’s in a fire or in any mineral composition. The God’s ‘I’ is, also, Inaccessible for ANY Sensory Perception and is “…THE LIVING CAUSE FOR ALL INFINITY OF COMBINATIONS OF MOVEMENTS OF MATTER, that, for senses, become the Infinite Profusion of Created Details that CONSTITUTE ETERNAL DIVINE REVELATION we call UNIVERSE. (Quote from book#, ‘THE ROAD TO LIFE’, chapter #6)
