Although some argue that social media eliminates an intimate face-to-face connection, social media has the power to create a progressive and important change in society.

Describe how does social media affects how people see us. What are some of the negative and positive effects of participating in social media sites such as Facebook?

The 21st century is defined by its obsession and advancements in technology, the younger generation in particular. Technology plays as a key factor in most lives, social media especially. Among the most popular of social media are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, all with the main purpose to share or view personal information and experiences, communicate with others and meet new people on social or professional grounds. There are several positives and negatives effects associated with social media, making it a topic of debate whether it is creating more good or harm for today’s society.

In less than two decades, social media has revolutionized modern communication and information sharing. What began as a simple form of social networking has turned into innumerable platforms for people around the globe to share ideas, create and share businesses, promote brands, read news from various sources, as well as share and find vast amounts of information, among many other uses. Thus, with a few clicks of a button, people are now able to interact with someone on the other side of the world. The capabilities created through social media’s many uses have forever changed global politics, business, and interpersonal communication.

It has never been easier to have a conversation with family members, friends, or even strangers who live millions of miles away. Due to the rise of social media, people have become more aware of social issues and have become aware of the world around them. They can easily read the news online or catch up on the latest celebrity drama. Social media improves the way humans communicate because it allows ideas to be spread quickly and efficiently to a global audience.

Since the introduction of Social Media in 1997, Social Media has redefined and radically changed communication and has become an important part of modern day communication. Social Media has made people much more connected to the rest of the world. Furthermore, Social Media has allowed people to interact and stay connected with each other regardless of where they are in the world. Social Media has also allowed people to share information and opinions to a wide audience. In a recent large-scale study conducted by Common Sense Media, Teens spend up to 9 hours consuming media. Social Media has changed how we share information and consume information.

It changes and affects each person in a different way, or ways. Some may argue that social media has a bad influence on children and young adults, and that it negatively effects their brains, character, or personalities, while most people see that the social media has a more positive effect on them than a negative one. This essay will begin by discussing some of the behavioral issues that result from social media usage, followed by criticisms of this argument. The recommendation will then highlight some ways by which the behavioural problems could be dealt with, acknowledging that self-monitoring and self-regulation are the main ways to tackle the issue.

New ways of communication over the Internet has grown severely and have brought negative and positive responses to the society around us. In particular, these social networks have become popular in the teen and young adult age group. Social networks has also been popular in unsatisfactory new reports where teens have been cyber bullying, posting inappropriate pictures, and promoting serious cases such as suicide. Social networks are represented as bad influence towards our society. Although some people use social networks in a negative way, there are others who use them positively and my argument will explain how. To support my argument I will use Twitter as an example of how social media can be used in a positive way by promoting writing practices, informing others, and being a sponsor of literacy.
