How has Social Media changed communication? Social Media is an important communication tool via a series of Websites and Applications used by millions of people which facilitates the creation and the sharing of content and information, which allows people to develop contacts and relationships to connect with each other efficiently through modern technology such as computers and mobile phones to fulfil people’s social needs. The “Social,” in Social Media refers to interacting with other people through sharing and receiving information and the “Media,” refers to the instrument of communication e.g. phone. Social Media is important since it has connected millions of people and Social Media is one of the dominant ways we communicate with each other. As of 2017 over 2.8 billion people use Social Media worldwide. It is hard to remember communication prior to the emergence of social media. Prior to the emergence of Social Media, communication was very direct and personal and people were limited to interacting with people they knew in person by seeing each other which meant the longer the distance the harder it was to communicate. People also communicated through other forms of media e.g. phones, email. Getting a response a few hundred years ago meant waiting for months or years to get a response. People have never stopped looking for a faster method of communicating with each other. In the past 2 decades, Social Media has radically evolved. (See Appendices 1&2). Social Media has astronomically changed communication in the past 2 decades. Since the introduction of Social Media in 1997, Social Media has redefined and radically changed communication and has become an important part of modern day communication. Social Media has made people much more connected to the rest of the world. Furthermore, Social Media has allowed people to interact and stay connected with each other regardless of where they are in the world. Social Media has also allowed people to share information and opinions to a wide audience. In a recent large-scale study conducted by Common Sense Media, Teens spend up to 9 hours consuming media. Social Media has changed how we share information and consume information. Social Media has changed how we
Firstly, the prominent factor of social media is how well it has been able to connect individuals. Often it is said that although we now are connected to everyone, we’ve never been more disconnected. Right now it’s an interesting time as technology has boomed over the past decades and has brought a new age of digital connection. We are now able to interact online, but many see this as a negative impact because we now longer meet physically. However, we should reconsider the value of being able to communicate digitally. In many cases, there are times when you can’t meet a person face to face. You could have made friends online or the friends you do have could have moved. In order to stay in touch, you have to rely on social media. The way we are connected by technology and social media has allowed us to keep in contact with people that we may have otherwise forgotten. I have a few friends where it’s been ages since I’ve seen them but I’m still able to joke
Throughout the last decade, social media has drastically changed the way people interact with others. Websites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram have taken the world by storm. It has never been easier to have a conversation with family members, friends, or even strangers who live millions of miles away. Due to the rise of social media, people have become more aware of social issues and have become aware of the world around them. They can easily read the news online or catch up on the latest celebrity drama. Social media improves the way humans communicate because it allows ideas to be spread quickly and efficiently to a global audience.
The evolution of technology in the 20th century brought many innovations. Among them is the social media. Essentially the 21st century revolves around these social media as individuals, corporations, and government agencies use these avenues to communicate and pass messages to their audience. I am an ardent user of social media too. Through the years that I have used social media, the sites have had a myriad effect on me. As expected these effects cut across both sides; some are positive effects while others are negative effects. However, the power of social media cannot be underestimated. With the ever increasing technological awareness among people, there is a possibility that the world will be connected through the social media.
The topic I selected to research is social networking and how it has changed communication in all aspects of life. I chose this topic because I am interested in learning more information about social media and how it has affected people’s communication skills. I am curious to discover how each source of social media affects communication.
The fastest growing sphere of influence in today’s society is technology. People of all ages are able to stay in touch with news, politics, and celebrity gossip at an unprecedented rate. Although they are remote from home, they can communicate instantaneously and communicate directly, which is novel and intimate. At the same time the use of network communication, whether it is thousands of miles away or in close proximity, the feeling is the same; both the ideas and wishes can be instant communication. What’s more, the Internet has overcome the constraints of traditional social space and time constraints and social, cultural, ethnic and other factors, and expanded the scope of people's

Social media is continuing to change the ways we communicate with others. At work, the mall, restaurants, etc. you can take a look around the room and realize that almost everybody will be looking at their phones texting, emailing, or checking their endless social media accounts.
