In the next coming months, Sojourner Inc. plans on implementing an operating system migration. Our desktops are still running on Windows XP. Needless to say it is time for an upgrade in operating systems. The IT department looked at 3 different operating systems: Microsoft’s Windows 8.1, Apple’s Mac OS X Yosemite, and Linux’s Ubuntu. The categories analyzed were compatibility, ease of use/transition, security, stability, technical support, and cost. Compatibility Compatibility of our new operating system will decide if we have to switch utility/office software and change drivers/hardware. With Windows owning a majority of the operating system market, almost every software and piece of hardware will work with Windows. The most we would …show more content…
Transition to Windows 8.1 would be fairly seamless, probably requiring some training slides to show and explain some of the new features. Macs are well known for their sleek style and clean design. They pride themselves on being very user friendly when compared to Windows. No matter how easy it is to pick up Mac’s operating system and features, old habits die hard. There would be a learning curve, but not much more than going from Windows XP to Windows 8.1. Most employees should be able to feel fairly comfortable after 1-2 weeks. Ubuntu is considered to be one of Linux’s more “user friendly” operating systems. It tries to incorporate a lot input through the GUI interface, but it is still more complicated to pick up then Windows or Mac. Ubuntu does require a great deal computer knowledge and firm grasp of using command line interface. The user cannot go “mouse happy” and click everything. Once a user does have a good understanding of Ubuntu CLI commands it can unlock the operating system to its full potential. Acquiring that level of understanding will take most of our employees a fair amount of time. We would have to consider training classes. Depending on how well each employee is able to pick it up, it could be weeks before they are comfortable maneuvering around Ubuntu. Free training classes can be found online, but the valuable work time lost due to the
In our world today there are so many different types of operating systems as well as features and applications that run on them. There are many similarities as well as differences between Windows 7, Linux and Windows Server 2008. The one enduring similarity is that all three are intended to be utilized as an operating system is meant to.
Linux as of lately has widely improved in the management however since it mostly open source you need to know what codes and a form of programming to remotely use this so it is much more difficult than windows.
Hello, my name is Robert Parker, and I was sent over by the IT consultant firm you just hired to give you a comparison and contrast of the three main OS systems you may choose to use within your company. The three we have chosen are Microsoft, Linux and Mac OS. Mas OS has been around the longest, and then Microsoft, these are the main two that most companies use today. Not to say one is better than the other, for it is mainly up to what the company’s mission is and what is needed to accomplish that mission.
Windows 7, 8, 8.1 64bits. These types of an operating system have good performance and new features. These are the latest operating systems and same familiar OS should be used. These OS will be used in every client PC’s in the department.
Since the dawn of the information age, computers have developed into a very important part of society. They are increasingly being integrated with numerous aspects of human life, and have become a necessity in many college and business settings. Two major corporations that capitalize on this integration are Microsoft and Apple, and while they may appear identical, the difference between Microsoft’s Personal Computer and Apple’s Macintosh becomes much more apparent when affordability, variety, and vulnerability are considered. Ultimately, a PC is a better purchase than a Macintosh.
Depending on your personal preference and need, there are a variety of operating systems available to users today. Whether it’s MAC OS, UNIX, Windows, etc they each have their own aspects and appeal that draw users in. The spotlight however, for the duration of this paper will be placed on a derivative of the UNIX family of operating system, Linux. The topics covered will include the history to include a handful of versions (distributions).
Kudler will need to implement an up-to-date server. We recommend that a server be purchased and the current one scrapped. The server will also need to run a more up-to-date version of the Windows operating system. I recommend Windows server either 2003 or 2008. I chose the Windows server edition because of the company’s already existing familiarity with the Windows server operating system. I also believe that learning the Linux operating system might slow down business operations and this is why in this situation a newer version of Windows would be a more reliable choice.
An operating system is the software that supports a computer’s basic functions, such as planning tasks, performing applications, and controlling peripherals. When choosing and introducing the best system for a business such as this, it’s important to make sure it fits the needs of the business while being easy to install, set up, manage, and understand. For this reason, I decided that the Apple OS X Server would be a good choice for this business. The OS X Server allows for more power, governing, and alliance throughout an organization. It has many features that would be a valuable addition to running a company. For example, file sharing makes it easier than ever to share and exchange documents between personnel and helps protect against tampering and spying by encrypting data. The Profile Manager feature easily creates profiles to set up user accounts for mail, contacts, calendars, and messages. It also enforces constraints and password guidelines. Another feature, the Caching Server, speeds up the download and delivery of software quickly and safely. With these features, and many others, setting up and
The purpose of this desktop migration proposal is to layout the proposed tasks and activities that are required to efficiently transition HACKM, LLC users from a Windows 7 computing environment to Windows 8. Currently, HACKM, LLC has 500

If you 're a Linux fan then you appreciate not only the price which is usually free but also that it is
As you are reading this essay, you are most definitely using a piece of technology whether a laptop or a desktop computer. As we can see in our society, technology is booming in our industry. Every year, technology scientists discover new amazing features that later get implanted into our daily used electronics. These days, one of the most known technology companies like Microsoft and Apple, compete with each other to release what’s best for their customers especially in computers. Apple and Microsoft might be both manufactures and sellers of similar functional computers but, there are many differences in the way their operating systems attract different people with different style. From the different structure of coding, to the same purpose of creating a type of style people feel most comfortable of using. Having a different mechanical structure and it’s components but, with the same functionality it produces. Lastly, getting use to these operating systems on these machines both take time but, which options they provide will depend who’s the buyer.
