Diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases to this day. With over 171 million cases of diabetes all over the world, this disease is spreading exponentially fast. Lesser known as Diabetes Mellitus, this disease is all about the amounts of sugar in one's body. Glucose, in particular. Glucose is the powerhouse of the body. It helps run your body by transforming into the energy that we use to function on a daily basis. Whether or not one's diabetes is minor or even off the charts it can lead to terrible outcomes. These include stroke, blindness, vascular disease and heart disease. As mentioned before, the major symptom of diabetes is that too much sugar is in one's body. This is similar to a disease previously mentioned, hemochromatosis. However, …show more content…
Juvenile-diabetes and adult-onset diabetes, or type 1 and type 2 for short. Type 1 diabetes is very common in those who are of Northern European descent. However, the lower parts of the world have much lower rates for type 1 diabetes. Take Africa for example. It's extremely uncommon in people of that descent. Clearly, it is diagnosed through one's descent. However treating type 1 diabetes can be difficult as ones carries the genes with them. Type 2 diabetes gets its roots from genetic components but there is still a strong relation between this disease and ones physical condition. Most type 2 diabetics are obese which leads doctors to believe that one's eating habits do in fact represent their health and whether they have diabetes or not. Most cases of Type 2 diabetes originate in developing countries. In most cases, type 2 diabetes is diagnosed due to poor food choices, and can be treated by eating better foods and dieting. Diabetes has impacted humanity in the sense that it has changed our views on weight. Thanks to the increase in diabetes most now believe that all diabetics are overweight and vice versa. However, in truth this is not completely …show more content…
As the book mentions, sugar helps heat the body, but how? Brown fat, an important type of fat in our body coincides with our sugar to provide heat when it is cold. The human body has a brain of its own. When it senses that it is too cold it functions in unique to stay safe. In this scenario, humans pee more when they are cold. This leads to more sugar in their bodies. Brown fat then transforms this sugar into heat. Initially taking place during a rapid period of temperature drops known as the Younger Dryas, it is hypothesized that this is how people in Europe survived the extremities of the cold. People with diabetes have even more sugar in their bodies. This means that they feel even warmer during this time. There is evidence to prove this as studies show that a diabetics urine is much sweeter than normal humans. As mentioned before, those with diabetes contain more sugar in their water. Also, a study consisting of nearly 300,000 American veterans with diabetes did indeed notice differences in their blood sugar levels through the years. Evidently, the highest blood sugar levels were detected in the cooler months of the
Diabetes refers to a set of several different diseases. It is a serious health problem throughout the world and fourth leading cause of death by disease in the country. All types of diabetes result in too much sugar, or glucos in the blood. To understand why this happens it would helpful if we understand how the body usually works. When we eat, our body breaks down the food into simpler forms such as glucose. The glucose goes into the bloodstream, where it then travels to all the cells in your body. The cells use the glucose for energy. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps move the glucose from bloodstream to the cells. The pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus further explains the concept on how this disease works. Pancreas
29 million people in the United States (9.3 percent) have diabetes, and of those 29 million approximately 7.25 million are unaware that they are diabetic (www.cdc.gov). Diabetes describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body 's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. Diabetes can be divided into two groups: Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is also referred to as juvenile diabetes and is usually found in children and young adults. Only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. Type 1 diabetes restricts the body from producing insulin, a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. Type 1 diabetes can be managed by using insulin therapy and other treatments to help those infected maintain insulin to convert sugars, starches and foods into energy(www.diabetes.org). Type 2 diabetes is the most common, people with Type 2 diabetes have insulin resistance meaning the body does not use insulin properly. At first, the pancreas makes a surplus insulin to compensate for the lack on insulin in your body. However, over time your pancreas is not able to keep up and can not make enough insulin to keep your blood glucose at normal levels(www.diabetes.org). Complications of diabetes in the long term include potential heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage.
Diabetes is a lifelong disease that can affect both children and adults. This disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. It claims about 178,000 lives each year. Type one diabetes, also known as insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, usually occurs in people less than thirty years of age, but it also may appear at any age. Diabetes is a very serious disease with many life threatening consequences, but if it is taken care of properly, diabetics can live a normal life.
In broad terms Diabetes make your blood sugar higher than normal after many years. “The body is affected by diabetes damaging to blood vessels in a can cause eye problems kidney problems and feet problems”(fordmartin,13). Diabetes he also affects on your digestive system ,the skin, sexual organs and the immune system.”Diabetes can affect the way your body fights bacteria, It's easier to develop plaque and other dental problems”(Ehrman,56). In a study done with a course of 2 years between healthy white and black kids at a hospital in philadelphia “African american obese adolescents are more insulin resistant than their white peers but have lower secretion increasing their risk of diabetes metulis”(Abstract,1). In type 1 diabetes it's due to genes if isluin isn't self made at all. Diabetes can just be due to
Diabetes is a big disease that affects many human beings worldwide. With the widespread growth of fast food industries in this day and age, people are eating a lot more unhealthy foods resulting in higher changes for diabetes. What many people don't fully understand is the difference between the two types of diabetes; type one and type two. Mayoclinic.org defines tpe 1 diabetes as "a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy". This type of diabetes in the kind that is normally had by children seeing that it comes from problems within there body and they had nothing to do with them or their appetite. Mayoclinic.org defines type 2 diabetes as "a chronic condition that affects the way your body metabolizes sugar (glucose), your body's important source of fuel". This is the diabetes that most people associate with the term. This comes from lack of
There are three types of diabetes: type 1diabetes and type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. All three are chronic conditions that "affect how the body uses blood glucose" or blood sugar. The body needs glucose because it is "an important source of energy for the cells that make up an individual 's muscles and tissues" Individuals with diabetes have too much glucose in their blood, which will inevitably lead to serious problems with a person 's health. Since every cell, tissue, and muscle needs glucose to function properly, it is important for a person who shows signs and symptoms of diabetes to see a doctor
People with type 1 or type 2 diabetes are also need insulin to treat diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes have their differences, yet somehow can be the same too. A difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2 are that people with type 1 diabetes are usually diagnosed in children and young adults, while type 2 is more common with adults. Type 1 is when the body's' immune system wipes out the cells that discharge insulin. Type 2 is when the body doesn't utilize insulin properly. And that is called an "insulin deficiency" (Diabetes). However, type 1 and 2 diabetes are alike because they both create a higher risk for complications in the person's body. That can cause blindness and kidney failure, which are the most common. But others may occur including heart disease, stroke, and foot or leg amputations.
Type one diabetes is a disease which cannot be curable. Though it can be controlled by medication, healthy foods and exercise. Diabetes is when the body is not making enough insulin to keep the blood sugar levels normal. The sugar in the insulin comes from the food we eat. People with this disease can not make the insulin needed for their bodies. Their pancreas sets up a blocking system, not allowing any insulin to form in their body. There is no cure for this disease. Having type one diabetes will mean you will need to inject insulin injections after every meal to keep your sugar levels in range.
Diabetes is a very common disease in the world, especially in the western countries; it's a disease that has chronic abnormal high glucose level in the blood, which may caused by insufficient production of insulin, or improper functionality of insulin and its receptors in the metabolic pathways and mechanisms (Hansen, 2012).
According to the Center for Disease Control, diabetes is the condition in which the body does not properly process for use as energy (Center for Disease Control, n.d). The body supplies its energy by turning in most of the food an individual takes in by turning it into glucose, which is sugar for the body to use as energy (Center for Disease Control, n.d). Diabetes develops because the body does not make enough insulin or is unable to use the insulin it produces effectively. As a result, the glucose or sugar builds up in the individuals’ blood. If severe, diabetes has the potential to cause serious health complications which include heart diseases, failure of the kidneys, blindness and lower-extremity amputations (Center for Disease Control, n.d). In fact, according to the Center for Disease Control, diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States (Center for Disease Control, n.d). Moreover, African Americans are 1.7 times as likely to
Diabetes is a medical condition that causes high blood sugar in the human body. This happens either because the body does not produce insulin at all or the insulin produced is not sufficient to move glucose out of the blood and into body cells where it should be broken down into energy. Insulin controls the amount of sugar in the blood.
Diabetes is a disease that causes the body inability to produce any or correct amount of insulin due to the tremendous levels of glucose in the human body. Diabetes is silent killer that attacks the blood vessels and overall damages the body ability to function correctly. To know if people have diabetes they would have symptoms of increased thirst, urination, fatigue, blurred vision, in most situations there meant not be any symptoms. Ways for people to avoid diabetes is exercise, healthy diet, limit the amount of red meat and processed meat, control the intake of sugary foods. There are two types of diabetes type one and type two diabetes. To treat type one and type two diabetes they are prescribed to
Diabetes is the condition, in which, the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired. Thus, the body undergoes an abnormal metabolism of carbohydrates and elevated levels of glucose in the blood and urine. In simpler terms, the body is unable to properly process food for the use as energy. Significant levels of glucose is important to our health because it is the main source of energy for the cells that make up the muscles and tissues; the brain’s main source of fuel.
Diabetes one of the most well-known diseases is a metabolic disease in which the body cannot produce insulin causing elevated levels of glucose in the blood. Insulin is a hormone that is very influential in the way the body changes food into energy, and is very important when it comes to treating or controlling the disease. Diabetes consists of two types, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. One is more lethal than the other, while the other requires less treatments of insulin. Diabetes is a very complex topic, it ranges from two types and its origins go way back in time. It is a disease that throughout time there have been different ways to diagnose it and have also been different ways to treat it. Since many other conditions are also related to
