Due to the importance of fishing to the worldwide economy and the need for humans to understand human impacts on the environment, the academic division of fisheries science was developed. Fisheries science includes all aspects of marine biology, in addition to economics and management skills and information. Marine conservation issues like overfishing, sustainable fisheries and management of fisheries are also examined through fisheries science.

Our team will be searching for relevant statistics, public documents and articles that cover the Vancouver Aquarium. Also, we will be looking to see if other Aquarium’s are facing similar opportunities and/or threats as presented in Vancouver.

Marine biologist understand marine organisms needs in their habitats, ultimately helping protect species and reduce human threats. As experts in understanding marine habitats, marine biologist often form essential parts of relief teams. They respond to oil spills and chemical leaks, helping other scientist restore normalcy to local habitats. Sometimes, marine biologists influence other spheres, such as economics and law. They might analyze the effect of sonar on whales and seals, for instance, recommending best practices for reducing harm on those sensitive populations. Marine biologists understand how the ocean supports basic needs, and in turn relay that information to lawmakers, who establish protocols regarding human use of ocean waters and marine organisms. Marine biologist help develop ocean technology too, improving waste elimination, energy sourcing and extraction of key sources. A brief review of components of the marine environment, world food resources, climate control, air and water quality, transportation, and the ecosystem balance are important features that are studied by marine biology. This vessel will be a cost saving for the client, as it does not require dropping anchors, which mean no anchor handler and topographical boats are required. Setting up on location for a DP vessel takes only a half hour compared to eight and four hours respectively for a work barge and workboat. The idea is to design a product that not only is a GPS unit, but can also be used to alter the helm settings such as course to steer and turning auto pilot on or off. This will allow you to change the heading of the boat without being stood at the helm. The new product will increase safety of passengers and will benefit both pleasure and competitive boatmen. Aquaculture is the wide term used to describe the cultivation of sea creatures. An example of aquaculture is fish farming. In Canada, the activities of aquaculture are practised in all provinces. However, if we look at the species each province produces (Figure 1-1), operations of coastal provinces have more variety on what they produce. It is easy to see why operations are more focused on the top producers in Canada: British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador (Figure 1-2).
