Does love really conquer all or is it destiny who determines the lover’s fate? Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare, Play, is a story about two “star-crossed lovers” (Shakespeare Prologue.6) whose love is fatal because of their opposing families and misfortunate events lead the couple to their death. In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare uses the motif of destiny to suggest that destiny is inevitable because everyone has their own fate for a reason which cannot be altered no matter the great lengths taken.

Love can be defined in many ways to many different people. It can be affected by their past experience, a romance novel they’ve read, or a love between two individuals they look up to. To most people it’s something they strive to experience, no matter the obstacles, heartbreak, or baggage that comes with it. Not too long ago I read an article about whether love is a choice or more than a feeling and it really made me wonder; wonder how can we tell if it is true love and when we’re ready for it. It lead me to ask the question, did Romeo and Juliet really love each other? Or was it just a simple feeling of lust?

In William Shakespeare’s tragedy Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers experience misfortune all caused by their lust and hastiness. The play talks about the two star crossed lovers trying to have their love blossom into something beautiful. Even though the lovers are around age thirteen and completely grasp the concept of love in relationships. Romeo and Juliet meet at the Capulet party, after that moment they are inseparable. Like all long lasting relationships, the lovers bump into each other and the next day they are married. From the start the lovers have opposition, whether that be from their families or their impatient nature. Romeo and Juliet claim to be in love, even though Romeo yearned to be with Rosaline, Juliet and Romeo only recently met, and they both jump to conclusions.

Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a play written in the 16th century that’s about a tragic love story between two teenagers who come from rival families, yet fate brings them together and despite the grudge that each family holds for the other; they fall in love. Throughout the story they hide their love from other people especially their families and marry and when Romeo is banished for murder they conceive a plan to run off together. From this story, we learn how two teenagers deceive their families and friends to meet each other when they aren’t supposed to. Also, people need to accept their differences and move on and that it’s about living in the present and not holding grudges. This play is very inspiring for generations to come. We all need to thank God that he didn’t make us as crazy as Romeo and Juliet. They made choices in the play that were so spontaneous and crazy that they ended up costing them their lives by the end. However, there are many lessons to be learned from Romeo and Juliet. I learned to always be honest, to not rush love, and to keep an open mind about things.
