The difference between petal and sepal.
Introduction:
Flower is the most beautiful part of a plant. The colours, shapes, and sizes of flowers are determined by the genetic makeup of each species. Flowers can vary in structure and form from species to species. A flower has many organs. Some organs provide support and protection, whereas others can be involved directly in the reproduction process.
Explanation of Solution
In general, flowers have four organs. They are sepals, stamens, petals, and pistils. The difference between petal and sepal are given below.
Petal | Sepal |
It is the colourful structure that can provide the pollinators a landing platform and attract them | It is the protective layer found between the stalk and the petals. |
They are varying in structure and colour. | They look like small leaves or sometime resemble the petals of the flower. |
It protects the reproductive organs. | It protects the flower bud. |
Thus, the petals and the sepals can be differentiated according to their structure and composition.
