Chapter 3, Problem 6RP
Program Plan Intro
Linear
- The linear programming(LP) is also known as linear optimization.
- Consider a mathematical model, and its requirements are used to represent by the linear relationships. The linear programming is the best method to achieve the best outcome of this mathematical model. The outcomes may be, maximum profit or lower cost.
- The linear optimization is also called as mathematical optimization because, it is a special case of mathematical programming.
- More formally, the LP is a technique for optimizing linear objective function subject to constraints of linear equality and linear inequality.

Q2:
A) The annual load duration curve of a certain power station can be considered as
a straight line from 20 MW to 4 MW. To meet this load, three turbine-generator units, two
rated at 10 MW each and one rated at 5 MW are installed. Determine (i) installed capacity
(ii) plant factor (iii) units generated per annum (iv) load factor and (v) utilization factor.
The liquid-liquid extraction process carried out at the Electrochemical Materials Laboratory

Assume that a is the amount of Ni in the liquid phase, and g is the amount of Ni in the organic
phase. Quadratic interpolation is used to estimate the value of g, which is given by the following
formula:
g = x1a? + x2a + x3
a. Find three simultaneous equations based on the data given by the experimental
results.
b. Use the Gauss Elimination method to get the values of x1, x2 and x3 and then
estimate the amount of Ni in the organic phase, if 2.3 g/l of Ni is available in the
liquid phase.
c. Use the LU Decomposition method to get the values of x1, x2 and x3. and then
estimate the amount of Ni in the organic phase, if 2.3 g/l of Ni is available in the
liquid phase.
