The personal statement is very important to applicants who intend to be admitted to an undergraduate or graduate school. The role of a personal statement is to make applicants be different from other applicants. It mainly serves the purposes of persuading the admission committee of applicants’ great passion for the study field, explaining their experience that shaped their personality, demonstrating their longtime desire and commitment for the degree, and showing their life goals. What the admission committee is looking for in a personal statement varies from school to school, major to major. Art and Design is a unique program requiring its prospective students to be different in every aspect. The Art and Design Admission Committee is looking for a student who has creative potential in all respects. Hence, for those who want to apply to the School of Art and Design, they should understand how to present their stories, experiences, practice, goals, philosophy, inspirations, and aspirations in a creative way.
I have chosen to study Radiography as I am very passionate about Science. Although this was never my strongest subject I always enjoyed studying the 3 science subjects and I soon developed an interest in radiography. I always worked hard to understand the fundamentals of science. I have developed an interest as I have seen people with many illnesses which had led me to want to pursue a career in radiography. My passion for patient care has strongly come from seeing people suffering from different health problems. Although it is a challenging profession I am willing to put in 100% to ensure I succeed in gaining a career. This career is a very rewarding career and I believe with my communication skills I will be able to provide support for patients and families. My interest in technology and disease has led me to an interest in this career.
I was born the fourth of December 1991 in Cranbrook British Columbia. I lived there for 18 years. Before joining the military I worked as a fry cook at a Burger King for three years and held part time jobs working for the College of the Rockies summer camp programs during the summer. My parents are currently living together in Cranbrook BC. My father works outside the province testing railway tracks for two months at a time, then returns home for two to three weeks. My mother acts as the main contact point of the family, she works as a financial clerk. I have a 22 year old sister who will be attending university in Calgary this September. I attended Mount Baker Secondary School in Cranbrook and graduated in 2009
I have had many experiences that demonstrate my life-long commitment to the promotion of progressive ideals. Some of these experiences go back as early as high school, I was a member Key Club and President of Natural Helpers (two volunteer groups), the International Club and helped my Muslim peers with the formation and establishment of M.E.C.C.A, to promote a positive image of Islam and educate Non-Muslims about the faith. In college I worked for NYPIRG, canvassing for environmental causes, did an internship and later worked for, Action for A Better Community a community action agency. After graduation, I volunteered at Citizen Action where I worked on the beginning stages of Healthcare Reform and the ACA. I want to be a New Leaders Council’s

The BTI internship superimposes my greatest interests: as a student of biochemistry, an impassioned environmentalist and humanist, and a prospective MD/PhD candidate, the part about advancing and communicating scientific knowledge in plant biology to enhance human health within BTI’s mission statement really resonates with me.

I started my field practicum at International Institute of St. Louis (IISTL) on 20th January 2017. The agency mission is to help immigrants, refugees, and their families become productive Americans and champion ethnic diversity as a cultural and economic strength. Every year the agency assist more than 7,000 immigrants with community integration services. The Social Work department that I am working in provides services related to serious or complex medical needs, domestic violence or other family problems, developmental and physical disabilities, and mental health needs. My former professional career has greatly influenced me to continue working with refugee and immigrant population.
My professional background is pretty diverse. In my lifetime I have done quite a few things that has shaped my outlook on life and my educational goals. I intially worked in the laboratory as a cell biologist and then with polymerase chain reactions (PCR) to determine viral loads of HIV in in patients. Later, while working in that same lab, I was able to test the efficacy of different PCR machines and run different tests before they were released on the market. I have had the advantage of working with one of the primer doctors in the field in adenoviruses and developing a streamlined assay to detect the virus, working with APoE mice and doing animal husbandry. When my daughter expressed a newfound “dislike” for science, I turned my attention
Outside of academic activities, I am quite involved in different forms of media and art. I began art around the age of seven and continue to do so today. As well as traditional art, I enjoy digital art; working with wacom tablets and programs such as Paint Tool Sai and Adobe Photoshop. I recently started my own online visual novel, with characters I have been developing since I was in 6th grade. I love creating my own storylines and characters; even though I often come up with ideals and scrap them.
I revisited my brief opinion on design and the department, written prior to entering the program, to evaluate what I have personally learned. It was generic, my knowledge of the discipline limited due to the lack of exposure throughout the first eighteen years of my life in Vietnam: “As we progress, communication via visual aid have become more and more common, as well as more efficient compared to other means. Powerful designs can transfer messages across, spread messages, and thus raise awareness of social, cultural and individual issues–such is only one of many uses”, I wrote, and such is the textbook definition. Design was to me a blind-spot, and I started the program without expectation of what to come.
