The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Doctor of Physical Therapy program is a unique and prestigious program designed to challenge the future Physical Therapists of our society. The rigor and competitive reputation of the program, the focus on collaboration and evidence-based education, and the service to the La Crosse community are just a few of the many reasons I am applying to this program. As a current undergraduate student, I value the collaboration in my current education and love that the DPT program at La Crosse will give me a similar learning experience. The competitive nature of the DPT program gives students the ability to receive individualized feedback from educators, as well as allowing students the opportunity to …show more content…
Even after school is completed, I will continue to pursue learning opportunities to grow with the profession in the changing healthcare world because I believe it is essential so that patients will have the best opportunity to succeed when working with me.
As a PT, I believe success is measured by my professional skills in addition to my ability to understand and build relationships with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. This is a unique quality I feel I have experienced through my service in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in La Crosse. I was blessed to receive a 12 year old little brother this past year and have been able to act as a positive role model for him, while also learning from him and his family's diverse cultural background. This experience has taught me the skills needed to interact with people from all different backgrounds and will help me immensely both as a student and as a future practicing PT. I have always had an unexplainable desire to help people in need through community service and the LIMS and EXPAND programs offer two more opportunities to for me to give back to the La Crosse community. Over the past few years, I have been involved in many service opportunities both in the La Crosse community and others such as traveling to Florida and Alabama as a part of the UW-La Crosse Habitat for Humanity
“Let’s create an AIDS/HIV-free generation”, which is not only a slogan that was proposed by President Obama but also a goal that I would like to achieve on my future career path. My practicum project at the Department of Health and Human Services was to generate dataset of new AIDS/HIV cases in Houston/Harris area required by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and then to use ArcGIS software to make a map describing the new diagnosed in Houston area. The final products can be spatially lined to other sources to enhance understanding of social determinants of health affecting populations impacted by HIV. This practicum experience let me realize that AIDS spreads so quickly is because most people have insufficient knowledge or misconception about the disease and prevention. Becoming a pharmacist to provide prevention service and educate people to improve their health and wellbeing is how I want to reach the goal of creating an AIDS/HIV-free generation.
Colleges with a medical department often have a master’s program for physical therapy. (“Physical Therapists”) Physical therapy students have a required amount of field work in order to complete a program. Each candidate must work in an accredited workplace for the field work assignments. This part of the program is extremely valuable and helpful for a new therapist entering the field. Working one on one can be difficult even with all of the educational tools. (Curtis 37)
profession, communities, and in society” (para. 5). I want to continue to broaden my knowledge over the life of my career. I also believe in using this knowledge to positively impact others in all aspects of healthcare.
the case of a warning. It can be vital to make a person’s quality of life
Following college, I moved to Portland, Oregon and looked for ways to continue developing my skills and fostering my passion for social responsibility. I started at Impact NW as an AmeriCorps member, where I served two terms helping run the AKA Science program. In my role, I managed hundreds of volunteers, wrote curriculum, and trained instructors; but above all, I learned how to work with corporate partners. Aided by corporate volunteers, our program served thousands of students each year. I quickly realized the importance of establishing meaningful, long-term relationships. Companies gave back to our community and in return we provided them a chance to hold an engaging experience for their employees. Every committed corporate team we cultivated helped us build capacity and redirect vital resources back into our program. We also encouraged volunteers to share their skills and as a result they would provide us with amazing insights. For example, one group of volunteers from Nike world headquarters helped streamline our processes by sharing ideas from their work in lean manufacturing. These experiences sparked something for me and I realized that my strengths as a creative thinker and a leader and my passion for giving back unite.
While growing up, there are innumerable decisions to be made and paths to take. As I am approaching the ending point of my high school career, I have finally found the correct one for me. I have known from a surprisingly young age that I wish to pursue a job in the medical field, and have taken a number of steps to help achieve this dream. I show tremendous passion for both my educational and career goals, and how to reach them. My future is incredibly important to me because through doing my job, I will also be achieving my biggest goal: saving lives.
How the teacher plans out the lesson and what materials are needed for that lesson must be done in advance and already set out before the lesson begins. The teacher needs to arrive on time to that lesson and be well presented and speak to the children in an appropriate manner. The teacher needs to address the
In the healthcare field, we are learning every day, and this makes us better equipped to serve our patients. I want to be able to grow in this facility and continue learning every day, and that is done through hard work and dedication. I’m a great team player and I want to be able to grow and help others grow as well. There is always room for me to grow as a person and I know I can do that by working together with others around me. During my clinical rotations at Texas Childern’s, I had the great privilege of working in a few different areas.
Striving for excellence through determination is essentially beneficial for the student as well as classmates and patients. The end goal of a physical therapy program is to equip students with important knowledge about the field to effectively treat each patient in a safe and informative manner. A patient’s health and well-being is relied heavily upon the therapist’s knowledge while being treated. Optimizing each learning opportunity as a student is critical in becoming a professional and well-educated physical therapist upon
I have had the pleasure of being a part of Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. Spending my time as a role model for my “little sister” has made a huge difference in not only her life, but also my own. Seeing her progress academically and behaviorally is very uplifting and gives me motivation to work with other at-risk youth. The organization plays a huge part in my decision to become a school social worker. I intend to remain a volunteer with the organization through adulthood. Along with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, I also spend time volunteering at Renaissance Care Center, a nursing home in Canton, IL. Renaissance Care Center has provided me the experience of working with the elderly as well as people with developmental disabilities. I truly enjoy my time spent volunteering with each age group, and will successfully apply my experiences to my future work. I am now completing my practicum at Heartland Healthcare Center. I have been able to apply my knowledge to the workforce, and have been reminded daily that social work is the job for me. It will be hard to leave the facility upon graduation, and have been asked to come back as a volunteer or activity assistant. Either way, I know I will be coming back to visit the residents and
One of the most valuable aspects in life is living healthy and independently. From a young age, I had always aspired to be a part of the healthcare field; however, I was unaware of the wide variety of options it had to offer. I can remember as a young girl having dreams of working in a hospital and developing relationships with diverse populations, and I am proud to say I still have the same dream till this day. As a Spanish major, I am always questioned with what I plan to do with my degree in Spanish.
Professionalism encompasses a plethora of attributes that must be displayed daily by those who strive to be known as the best at what they do. Even though I am about to finish my undergraduate career, the past four years have taught me a few things about being a young, up and coming professional. Going into any physical therapy program, I believe that an even higher standard will be demanded from me as I work towards becoming a licensed professional. Being a professional doctor of physical therapy (DPT) student is incumbent upon having a magnificent work ethic, having a tremendous attention to detail, show up on time, dress appropriately, and respect everyone. These characteristics although just a few, play a crucial role in being the best student I can be.
The standards set out in the CIPD Profession Map, developed in collaboration with HR and L&D professionals, senior business people, academics and their organisations across the world, aim to set the bar high, based on research for last five years. They determine what the best HR and L&D professionals and organisations are doing, what they know and understand, to really make a difference and drive the performance of the organisation.
For my first integrated clinical placements within the Nazareth College Doctor of Physical Therapy program, I will be participating in aquatics at Highland, and at the Hickoff center for brain injury rehabilitation. I am excited to start these placements to take on more of a leadership role in a wellness setting, to learn more about the different areas Physical Therapy can be beneficial in, and to become more comfortable working with individuals of different populations.
Widener University was a pioneer in the country to offer DPT; with years of thriving. An exceptional quality Widener has to offer is hands on practice with patients and clients beginning in our first semester. This quality is different than vast majority of the other schools that offer this program because other schools offer hands on experience in second year. Widener’s early hands on practice ultimately will help me enter the field with more experience. Wanting to go back to Punjab, India after my years of studying for Physical Therapy, to the village where my dad had spent his childhood. I wanted to go back to give free care to the elders in the village because of the lack of funding for care. Majority of the elders have joint, hip, and
