Throughout the play Hamlet, we can view Hamlet as someone who is either insane or sane. As the reader goes through the play, they create an opinion of Hamlet and his character. I am going to argue that Hamlet is completely sane in calculating the murder of the new King. I am going to defend my opinion with different examples through all 5 Acts of the play.
The beginning of the play sets the stage for everything to unfold. Hamlet is weak in the mind due to his father’s unnatural death. In Act 1, Hamlet speaks to the Ghost and learns how his father died. Without Hamlet interaction with the Ghost, he would not have created a desire for revenging his father’s death. Now knowing that Claudius killed his father in order to take his place as king, it only makes sense that Hamlet desires the truth to be revealed as to what happened to his father.
During Act 2, the King, Queen, and Polonius all believe that Hamlet has gone mad and should not grieve his father’s death as much as he is. Little do they know that Hamlet’s logical thought process is above their own. Polonius believes that the reason Hamlet …show more content…

Hamlet comes across the King in a secluded room. This was the perfect moment for Hamlet to strike, but he observes the King praying and the outcome of what would happen if he killed them right then. Hamlet said, “And so he’ll go to heaven, and so I’ll get revenge. That needs to be thought over” (3.3.78-79). Later on in Act 3, the reader finds Hamlet speaking to Queen Gertrude in her chamber. They are having a conversation and Hamlet toward the end of the conversation, tells the queen to follow certain rules and not to sleep with the King any longer. The queen said, "Be assured, if words are made out of breath, and if breath comes from life, there is no living part of me that will breathe what you have said to me" (3.4.214-217).
