Transition from Student to Nurse A number of emotions were felt during this experience, in regards to transitioning from a student nurse to the registered nurse role. Primarily, the transition in role from student nurse to registered nurse was similar to any clinical experience I have had at Midlands Technical College. I was placed in a medical-surgical rotation. I felt slighted that not only were we required to complete a data tool but we also participated in the teamwork model demonstrated in prior semesters. Personally, I did not feel a transition during this particular clinical experience. My Clinical Experience What did I like about the experience? I did like that my clinical instructor challenged me. Her expectations were very high for each student. I respected that she was serious about her role as a nursing instructor. She often tells us that she knows what will be awaiting us as new graduate nurses and she wants us to succeed. I work diligently to ensure that I will be successful. Feeling Uncomfortable The uncomfortable part about this rotation was mostly working with the elderly adult population. I felt cheated, again. The first time I earned a degree I expressed interest in working with mothers and babies and I did not have the opportunity to do so. That same thing happened again in this program. I found myself counting down the days until clinical was over. I do not feel that activities of daily living, although important, should be the primary focus of
