Concept Introduction:

The product obtained from the hydrolysis of amide are carboxylic acid salt and ammonium or an amine. The formation of carboxylate salt results from the reaction of carboxylic acid and base. Thus, one mole of base per mole of amide is required for complete hydrolysis of an amide.
