Question
Chapter 22, Problem 81P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The characteristics of RNA which makes it to have catalytic activity are to be predicted and the reason for DNA to have less catalytic activity is to be stated.
Concept Introduction:
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a source of genetic information and is used in transcription and translation. The hydroxyl group is absent on the second carbon atom of deoxyribose sugar of DNA. However, in RNA, hydroxyl group is present on the second carbon atom.

Enzymes function most efficiently at the temperature of a typical cell, which is 37 degrees Celsius. Increases or decreases in temperature can significantly lower the reaction rate. What does this suggest about the importance of temperature-regulating mechanisms in organisms? How does this translate to the development of enzyme assays for clinical laboratory testing equipment? Explain.
1. Describe enthalpy with respect to free energy change.
2. Describe the term endergonic with respect to a system's
free energy change.
3. Distinguish between free energy of a reaction and
activation energy for that same reaction.
4. What is an enzyme mechanism?
5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using enzymes in carbohydrate chemistry?
