Chapter 39, Problem 16TYK
Summary Introduction

To review:

The propagation of action potential through nerve is evolved only once, according to a biologist. Find evidence that either supports or refutes that hypothesis.

Introduction:

The nerve impulse or action potential is generated in the neurons. An action potential is nothing but an electrical impulse. This electrical impulse generates due to the presence of voltage-gated ion channels on the plasma membrane of the neurons and presence of different concentrations of ions (sodium, potassium, calcium) in both sides of the neurons.

“Animal personality” has been defined as consistent differences between individuals that persist over time. Briffa & Greenaway (2011) studied wild beadlet anemones (Actinia equina) to see whether they display ‘personalities’. They disturbed individual anemones with a jet of water (which causes their tentacles to retract) then recorded how long it took each anemone to reopen (seconds). The experiment was then repeated two weeks later to see whether individual anemones showed consistent reopening times (consistency indicates they have ‘personalities). a)Sketch an appropriate graph to show whether any association exists between the day 1 and day 14 anemone responses. What kind of graph is it? b)Is a strong association present? (i.e., do anemone’s have ‘personalities’?) Pls help with the following question asap and explain
DEVELOPMENT OF EVOLUTIONARY THOUGHT  ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.  2. One of the criticisms of Lamarck's idea was a wrestler with very well-developed muscles. Consider this hypothetical situation: YOU decided NOW that when you have children, you want them to be big and strong. You decided to go to the gym every day for a year. You did all your exercise routines diligently and you were able to develop really bulky and toned muscles. Do you think this will work? Write down in one sentence the main reason why this would or would not work.  3. How did Darwin disproved Lamarck? Why did Darwin still think that Lamarck's work was very important?
Which of the following physiological systems has undergone selection in cockroaches in response to poison traps placed by humans?   a. Tactile sensory neurons to sense human movement   b. Visual systems to detect bait traps   c. Digestion of glucose in the stomach   d. Taste and sensory neurons
