I am proud of the knowledge I’ve gained over these past seven weeks in terms of not only technical skills, but communication and collaboration skills as well! I was fortunate enough to be able to go into this semester having had a wonderful experience this summer through the Geary Co-Op, which helped me gain important technical nursing skills, though this experience did not teach me to be half the team member that I am now thanks to this simulation experience. And while that’s perhaps the biggest takeaway I’ve gained from this course, there certainly are others!
Going into this semester, the areas in which I acknowledged that I needed to make great improvements were with reading cardiac rhythm strips, understanding causes and manifestations of abnormal lab values, and with improving interdisciplinary communication. Our cardiac rhythm/mock code simulation day was very helpful for me, and the way David was able to simplify the broad subject of reading strips during his mini-lecture that day was so enlightening. Since that simulation lab, I have found myself having a much easier time reading strips and identifying abnormal rhythms in clinicals and on exams. I had no idea that my confidence in this area would grow so much in such a short amount of time.
I really appreciate that in many of the cases with which we worked during simulation had components of interpreting different lab values, another aspect of nursing care on which I wanted to focus. The biggest piece of feedback
Hi Terry. Nice initial post and I enjoyed reading it. I learned to gather my data accurately and perform the head-to-toe assessment thoroughly. The data that we gather during assessment should be factual and complete to provide diagnostic reasoning, decisions, and proper treatments for patients (Jarvis, 2012). I definitely agree with you, the Shadow Health Assessment with Ms. Tina Jones was also my biggest moment from this course. She was surely challenging, but I would say it was worth it. The comprehensive assessment was difficult and I spent hours in order for me to complete the assignment. I enjoyed doing the assessments of each system. I learned the importance of documenting accurately, clearly, and concisely. In addition to that, the
First Year Seminar is a beneficial, getting started-like course provided by West Coast University during the first term of the program. Since the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is very rigorous this course is helpful in adjusting new students, such as myself, to a very demanding, fast-pace program. This class focuses on topics that help students organize and understand oneself and the mission of WCU mission to achieve the greatest success as a student. In my Signature Assignment term paper I will focus on my experience with FYS and what information I’ve gained to help me understand my learning style, strengths and weaknesses I have as a student, how working collaboratively benefits me and how I will go about achieving success at WCU.
The last week of classes for NURS1005 were a series of clinical skills activities. These activities refreshed the student’s minds on what they will be doing on placement and how to do it. We got assessed on three clinical skills; taking and recording vital signs, blood glucose levels and doing a urine analysis. I’ve chosen to reflect on taking vital signs and how I performed them. Reflection is a very important part of learning from experiences which is essential in nursing. Nursing practises continue to change and it is easier to go with and to add to that change if you are reflecting on your practise. This essentially makes nursing practises better for the patients. I have reflected on the process of how I took the vital signs during my clinical skills activities. I was very nervous but believe I performed them well due to how I was taught, what I have read and seen and the vital signs signified how my peer was acting which was healthy and within a normal range. Even though I felt I did them well, there were improvements that could and have happened since. Most of the improvements are minor in comparison to the strengths I have but it is important to recognise improvements when needed so you are giving the best and accurate care. I was aware of these improvements needed and tried to strengthen them during my clinical placement which helped me learn different ways of doing processes and also the rationale behind the processes.

The most exciting part of the week was the opportunity to create the vignette because it connected coursework to real life situations. The vignette afforded me the opportunity to examine my strengths and weaknesses as they apply to becoming a qualitative researcher. The ability to read body language and facial expressions will be useful as I observe. My clinical experience developed in part by working with students who are English Language Learners will be an asset as I ……….. For one I possess a natural curiosity without being extremely nosy.
Great feedback from peers and instructor. This interaction to me means a lot since that is how I measure myself how much knowledge I am gaining and what part is that one that I need to put more attention to.
Throughout the weeks our team has recognized the effects and methods to managing the system development within our bookstore. It’s true that the bookstore has endured growing pains of ways to better secure their information as well as the sensitive information of their customers. Our team has analyzed better ways to conduct our business as well as the processing methods that will be improved to meet our needs. By examining our business process we had to identify the functions that were causing problems or raising cost, rising risks or basically wasting time.
During the capstone simulation experience, I believe I performed well in quickly reporting the perforated bowel to the provider. This is an urgent issue that needs to be addressed quickly to prevent many serious complications such as: peritonitis, sepsis, hypovolemia, and low H&H due to excessive bleeding. The routine procedure of a colonoscopy is not without risks and this simulation experience was a great example of how an adverse event can go undetected until after discharge or when the physical symptoms appear and start ailing the patient.
The reason why I chose that you would encourage more minority form firms to apply for these contracts is because any article of the city of Richmond versus Crow sign 1989 it really does state that it's illegal for the cities and states to give preference to minority owned firms but, with the amount of the racial discrimination that's going on you don't want to violate the equal protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment that way minorities get something better than nothing. To impose on the curfew law was because, of minors do not have the same Constitution protection as in the notebook with minors they are underage
We were four in our group and we were given a scenario of a patient who was having an anaphylactic reaction from bee sting venom. The group agreed that I will be the primary nurse. As the primary nurse, I knew that I had to lead and supervised our group in responding to the emergency situation at hand. Having played the role of a primary nurse in this simulation, I have gained meaningful experience, which I can use in my future nursing practice.
Thank you for making my practicum rewarding and exciting. I look forward to keeping in touch with you and your staff as I continue in the field of Health Information Technology.
Charles Darwin’s groundbreaking theory of evolution was certainly not restricted to species in the wild. Adapting to change in any corporate environment is fundamental to the success of any organization and its employees. Achieving this success depends on a key ingredient – appropriate application of change management that focuses on increasing levels of commitment to change and decreasing levels of resistance.
Despite the age and immensity of the Universe, we have not been visited nor been contacted by extraterrestrial beings because we are a part of a computer simulation. According to the Simulation Hypothesis, theory provided by Nick Bostrom, humans are unaware of being part of this computer generated simulation. The most compelling piece of evidence that supports this hypothesis is the fact to one can consider a sequence of possible situations which an increasing fraction of all people live in simulations becomes more accurate. (Bostrom 1)
Over the past three weeks in the University of Phoenix Marketing Management class, I have completed three simulations based on real life marketing situations. The first simulation was titled, "Forecasting Market Demand." This simulation discussed the importance of determining the future demand for your product in the voice commanded software industry. The marketing team for the new Listensoft software needed to accurately forecast the production capacity of the new product and the pricing strategy. This task is especially difficult because human behavior is difficult to predict. Forecasting behavior " is about generating numbers out of expectations, opinions, statements, prior patterns and a host of other subjective elements" (Forecasting
