Chapter 3, Problem 21P
Summary Introduction
Interpretation:the change in the customer value feature with an increase in the technical specification 1 is to be determined.
Concept Introduction:
QFD Analysis: Quality function deployment: Modeling the mathematical correlations between customer’s perception of a product and its technical design specifications.
It is defined as a procedure and set of tools that are used to successfully define the requirements of the customer and transform them into detailed engineering specifications and plans to produce the products that achieve those requirements.

CASE STUDY
You have been assigned the task of making a preliminary recommendation
for the material to be used in the bumper of a new ultra-safe crash-resistant
automobile. It is particularly important that the bumper be able to survive
the energy levels associated with low-velocity crashes, without damage to
the bumper of the automobile. Even more important, for high energy levels
associated with severe crashes, the bumper should be capable of deforming
plastically over large displacements without rupture, thereby dissipating
crash pulse energy to protect the vehicle occupants. It is anticipated that
these new vehicles will be used throughout North America, and during all
seasons of the year. A 10-year design life is desired. Cost is also an
especially important factor. Propose one or a few candidate materials
suitable for this application. (Specific alloys need not be designated).
Pharasalia skincare Inc. has developed a new lotion that will help to improve skin ageing. Total sales of the
lotion for the last year were $60,000,000. The following data have just been gathered on last year's quality-
related costs.

It is one that fits the intended customer’s requirements. Impliedly, the product should possess attributes that enables it meet the customer’s requirement or specification. Now, in identifiably distinctive manner, differentiate quality control from the others or quality assurance. ii) Briefly define hazard, when uncertainty is defined as being a situation in which the determination of risk factors is not possible. It is difficult therefore to calculate the effect of uncertainty upon the tender, and a discussion of uncertainty is out of place here. - Explain the method of Sensitivity analysis with example?arrow_forwardProfessor Ahmad of Oasis University gave an engineering case study to his class to analyze and comment. It is a famous case that many universities use in engineering education. Omar, who is a student of Professor Ahmad's class found a website that contains analysis done by many students of Western University. Omar told his close friends Jameel and Khalid what he found. They selected three different analyses. That means each one got a well- written and ready-made answer. Omar directly copied from what he selected. He did not even indicate the website as a source of reference in his submission. Jameel did not directly copy from the one he selected. He rephrased some of the sentences. He also indicated the website as a source of reference in his submission. Although Khalid studied the sample he selected and some others samples available on that website, he wrote the analysis on his own. He also indicated the website as a source of reference.
